They're big enough to carry the weight of the batteries needed for a sensible car-like range and have large flat roofs that are perfect for solar panels. Plus they can carry 8 or more people while getting the equivalent of over 100mpg easy.[2] They're here, they're electric, and they're waiting for you to plug on in. Check out EVO's list of the 8 best electric cars on the market today.[3] They're not for everyone, but they might be perfect for you. [4]
Plug-in hybrids can double as all-electric cars for short trips and combustion/electric for long trips. Also, we must end environmentally harmful practices such as urban sprawl, which make us so dependent on internal combustion engines.[9] Plug-in appliances and heating and cooling can have a huge impact, the equivalent of automobiles, and it is something that people have more control over. It is not just solar, a mix of things is needed.[10]

Even though it is an ecological engine, the electric engine offers performance levels similar to a petrol or diesel engined vehicle. For example, in terms of acceleration, an engine in an electric car immediately delivers all of its power as soon as it is started up.In terms of speed, the active performance of an electric vehicle (maximum speed, acceleration, etc.) will be similar to those of a vehicle equipped with a 1.6 litre internal-combustion engine.[18] Even today, the best electric cars are more expensive, less powerful, and don;t travel as far or as fast as gas-powered cars -- though that gap is closing. Electric cars may soon be good enough for most purposes.[19] Even if the oil companies sold the battery for the price of $1 you still couldn’t buy one if they refused to sell it to you, like they did with Mercedes.
